a wet day in the woods

It was raining hard yesterday, but the maples were glowing against the dark trees and low clouds.

droplets

Was out walking after a soft rain and found two cotinus bushes covered with tiny droplets. The photos would be better if I had had my DSLR with a macro lens, but my phone did pretty well.

April artwalk

20150319_145645

It’s almost time for the downtown Bellingham April artwalk! I’ve been working on getting more of my misty forest prints mounted on wood blocks, as well as some new flower prints that would make great Easter presents ūüôā I also invested in a display rack for greeting cards and small prints. Come check it out! We will most likely not be open for May artwalk, since that’s traditionally the “children’s artwalk,” but both my father and I will have plenty for sale at the Rexville Grange Art Show in mid-April.

As always, artwalk will run from 6pm until 10pm (or whenever we run out of customers) on first Friday, April 3rd. We are in studio #213 above the Pickford Film Center on Bay Street in downtown Bellingham.

early spring

It’s been weirdly warm in our part of the world, hellebores and minor bulbs shooting out of the ground with alarming rapidity. Time to get out the macro lens.

A few photos from yesterday’s walk at the Port of Skagit trail system. Sometimes I get frustrated with my cell phone camera, other times I’m happily surprised with its quality. This was a mix.

I don’t always take my good camera with me on dog walks, but some mornings you just know it’s going to be worth it.

black and white challenge

At some point during December, a friend on Facebook challenged me to one of those things where you post a black and white photo each day for five days, tagging a different friend each time. I’ve been getting back into black and white photography more and more, so this was a fun exercise. Here are some of the images I used for the challenge, plus a few others I took around the same time.

holiday lights

My immediate¬†family celebrates Christmas (in a secular sort of way) while our extended family celebrates Hanukkah, but there doesn’t need to be any official observance for celebrating friends, family, good food, and colorful lights in the long winter dark while¬†waiting for the days to lengthen into spring.

doldrums

I know it’s been quiet in this space, but it hasn’t been because I’m not working. That’s the problem actually – I’ve been doing enough freelance writing¬†that I’m either not taking many photographs, I’m just taking them to go with articles, or the ones I¬†have taken are sitting in my catalog waiting for me to actually look at them. I like writing, but I miss photography. Hopefully I’ll have more stuff to look at here in the near future.
