Happy New Year! Don’t forget that tonight is the downtown Bellingham artwalk, and I’ll be at my studio from 6pm until around 9. Stop by, say hi, get your picture taken! We went to my folks’ house for Christmas and I took advantage of the clear skies and not-too-horribly-freezing weather to try out some starContinue reading “winter skies”

lake view
My studio is a half hour drive from my house, so to amuse myself I’ve been checking out alternate routes. One of these takes me along the shore of Lake Samish, and there’s a boat launch area with a nice view across the water. There’s often nice little misty clouds around here, too. I’m lookingContinue reading “lake view”
slough view
Just a glimpse onto Edison Slough from the back courtyard of Slough Food a couple of weeks ago. It was a raw day, damp and blustery, but the light was beautiful.
thanksgiving
I took this image on Thanksgiving Day in 2011. Today I am thankful for sunshine and a light frost.
November sun
We’re having the most amazing sunny spell here in Western Washington. The first part of the month was typical November, wind and rainstorms and heavy snow in the mountains. But this week it’s cold, crisp and bright. Everyone is soaking up every bit of sunshine possible before the clouds return for the winter.
forest pond
Yesterday the dog and I made it out onto a short trail hike for the first time in awhile. The wintry sunlight filtering through the trees made an interesting dapple effect, especially on and around the small boggy pond at one end of the trail. I’m fascinated by the jumble of plant life and waterContinue reading “forest pond”
white and gold
This row of trees in Bakerview Park was dropping leaves like rain in the cold still air of yesterday’s freeze. I love them in all their golden tones, but I also love converting autumn photographs into black and white, because the leaves becomes wonderfully white and ghostly.
Sunday spider
Happy Sunday evening! How about a cute lil garden spider? Or if that doesn’t do it for you, some flowers from my garden that I shot back in late summer? I’ve actually spent very little time in my garden this year, shooting or weeding, but I just found these photos in my catalog that IContinue reading “Sunday spider”
sunset on the flats
I wasn’t sure what my photo of the day would be today. Then we drove out to La Conner right at sunset. We passed a birch tree that was glowing, moved into a brilliant orange sunburst, and continued on into the hot glow of the west over the green Skagit fields. I wished desperately forContinue reading “sunset on the flats”
ridge and river
Cell phone cameras aren’t at their best used through a car window while in motion, but the light in Tumwater Canyon was so beautiful as we drove through last Friday that I couldn’t resist trying a few shots.
