Yesterday the dog and I made it out onto a short trail hike for the first time in awhile. The wintry sunlight filtering through the trees made an interesting dapple effect, especially on and around the small boggy pond at one end of the trail. I’m fascinated by the jumble of plant life and water and light in this photo.

setting up the show
This week we’re setting up at the Rexville Grange for the Pleasant Ridge Gallery show this coming weekend. I have a small selection of photographs as well as my full stock of handwoven scarves, including several warm wool pieces and two new, just-off-the-loom chenille scarves, nice and long for wrapping. Come try them on along with a handmade felt hat and some snazzy jewelry from our other artists!

cat on packing paper
I spent most of today hauling things around in the rain and packing for the Rexville show, and the few pictures I took are fairly worthless. Here’s a photo from last week of my cat Stella, holding down some packing material from an Amazon order. She’s old and creaky but still photogenic and cute as a button.
Sunday spider
Happy Sunday evening! How about a cute lil garden spider? Or if that doesn’t do it for you, some flowers from my garden that I shot back in late summer? I’ve actually spent very little time in my garden this year, shooting or weeding, but I just found these photos in my catalog that I forgot to post at the time.
alleyways and atriums
I’ve just started to explore my surroundings around the new studio. I’m deeply interested in the possibilities of the alley behind my building, not to mention the weird little atrium in the center of the art studio complex. Bellingham is so cool. I particularly love the glimpse out towards the water at the end of the alley. Is that awesome or what?
skylight
Almost forgot to get my post up today. Here are a couple of shots I took with my phone yesterday in the foyer outside my new studio, looking straight up to the skylight. I love how completely mysterious they look. The difference between them is entirely due to where I pointed the phone while focusing and setting exposure: into the skylight, or onto the wall.
sunset on the flats
I wasn’t sure what my photo of the day would be today. Then we drove out to La Conner right at sunset. We passed a birch tree that was glowing, moved into a brilliant orange sunburst, and continued on into the hot glow of the west over the green Skagit fields. I wished desperately for a good camera but made do with my phone from inside the car. You can kind of get the idea.
The Local
My photos and review of The Local Public House, a new taproom in downtown Bellingham, are in the current issue of the Cascadia Weekly! Check this place out, they have a great beer selection and make an amazing Reuben sandwich. Also, chilaquiles may not be the most photogenic breakfast but they sure are good.
