A few photos from yesterday’s walk at the Port of Skagit trail system. Sometimes I get frustrated with my cell phone camera, other times I’m happily surprised with its quality. This was a mix.
cows, barns and hubs
I spent last month working on three different projects for Grow Northwest magazine, all of which are now out in the June issue. I interviewed Jo Wolfe at the Skagit County Historical Museum and drove around following the heritage barn map that she helped put together. I visited a raw milk dairy and got lickedContinue reading “cows, barns and hubs”
tulips
Even after all these years of living in Skagit Valley, tulip season is strange and surreal. Actually I think it gets weirder all the time.
slough view
Just a glimpse onto Edison Slough from the back courtyard of Slough Food a couple of weeks ago. It was a raw day, damp and blustery, but the light was beautiful.
artwalk tonight!
The sunsets have been amazing this week, with gorgeous clear starry skies afterwards. Don’t forget to come out for the Downtown Bellingham Artwalk tonight! I know it’s really coldContinue reading “artwalk tonight!”
November sun
We’re having the most amazing sunny spell here in Western Washington. The first part of the month was typical November, wind and rainstorms and heavy snow in the mountains. But this week it’s cold, crisp and bright. Everyone is soaking up every bit of sunshine possible before the clouds return for the winter.
forest pond

The wintry sunlight filtering through the trees made an interesting dapple effect, especially on and around the small boggy pond at one end of the trail. I’m fascinated by the jumble of plant life and waterContinue reading “forest pond”
cows aglow
Backlit cows in a green field. I was driving down Farm to Market Road and did a u-turn when I saw these guys.
sunset on the flats
I wasn’t sure what my photo of the day would be today. Then we drove out to La Conner right at sunset. We passed a birch tree that was glowing, moved into a brilliant orange sunburst, and continued on into the hot glow of the west over the green Skagit fields. I wished desperately forContinue reading “sunset on the flats”
