I know it’s been quiet in this space, but it hasn’t been because I’m not working. That’s the problem actually – I’ve been doing enough freelance writing that I’m either not taking many photographs, I’m just taking them to go with articles, or the ones I have taken are sitting in my catalog waiting for me toContinue reading “doldrums”

puddles
One day during a recent spell of sunny but unpleasantly cold weather, I bundled up and wandered down to the Bellingham waterfront with my camera. The old Georgia Pacific paper mill site is not particularly attractive, but the vast expanse of pavement creates some interesting puddles, and I love the glimpse of the shining bayContinue reading “puddles”
lake view
My studio is a half hour drive from my house, so to amuse myself I’ve been checking out alternate routes. One of these takes me along the shore of Lake Samish, and there’s a boat launch area with a nice view across the water. There’s often nice little misty clouds around here, too. I’m lookingContinue reading “lake view”
forest pond
Yesterday the dog and I made it out onto a short trail hike for the first time in awhile. The wintry sunlight filtering through the trees made an interesting dapple effect, especially on and around the small boggy pond at one end of the trail. I’m fascinated by the jumble of plant life and waterContinue reading “forest pond”
winter slough
I don’t always remember to take one of my DSLRs with me on walks, so I’m particularly grateful for the camera in my cell phone. I might have missed getting this image of Big Indian Slough where it runs into Padilla Bay, with winter sunlight glowing on the water.
refraction
This coming weekend one of my photos will be hanging in the juried gallery at the Edmonds Arts Festival – a cropped version of the photo above. I made these images back in March, one bright morning after it had snowed, and the maple trees in my front yard were covered with beads of waterContinue reading “refraction”
a walk in the park
One of my favorite places to walk with my camera is the loop road at Washington Park in Anacortes. Even on a cloudy day there are amazing possibilities for shooting water, trees and flowers. Ferries slide by in the distance, and sometimes the Olympic Mountains make a brief appearance. It’s a remarkable place.
Whistle Lake
A beautiful spot in the Anacortes Community Forestlands. The park has miles of hiking trails, but it’s easy to get distracted by photo opportunities. I didn’t get as much of a workout on this hike as I could have.
