A recent trip to Kansas City was too involved for me to take one of my good cameras, but I had a few minutes here and there to shoot with my phone camera. This image was taken through a glass art piece at a relative’s house, just after sunrise. I wish I’d had time to play around with it more, it has definitely possibilities.
November happenings & NaBloPoMo
November is going to be a busy month. To encourage myself to keep track of things here on the blog, I’m going to unofficially participate in NaBloPoMo and try to post every single day. It might just be a snapshot, but that’s better than nothing.
The big news, as you might know if you follow me on Facebook, is my new studio. I’ve rented a room in the Pickford Dreamspace, a collection of artist work studios above the Pickford Theatre in downtown Bellingham. I’ll have framed photographs and handwoven scarves for sale, a studio setup for still life and portrait work, and maybe some of my weaving equipment. I’ll also use some of my copious wall space to show a few of my father’s paintings or prints, and down the line there will be a joint exhibit with my friend Rich that’s going to be very cool. I’m planning on being officially open for the downtown Artwalk on December 6th, but I’ll be around before then if you want to come by and check it out.
The other event coming up this month is the Pleasant Ridge Gallery at Rexville holiday arts and crafts show. As usual, I’ll have photos and weaving there and we’ll be playing music at the opening reception. Come visit and get your shopping done early!
art on location
A few weeks ago I shot some more paintings for my friend Deirdre, on location at her art show at the Lincoln Theatre. Tricky lighting, with daylight leaking in from one side, but I think we did all right. I’m going to be really happy to have my new Bellingham studio for this kind of art photography in the future, though – much easier to control glare and angle. In any case, we got some more good shots and Deirdre now has her Facebook page and website up and running, check them out!

a day in the city
I’ve fallen woefully behind with my photography – at least, there are plenty of pictures on my computer but I keep not getting around to posting them anywhere. Here are a few images I took in Seattle a few weeks ago – we went into town for my birthday and took the monorail from downtown to the EMP, then had dinner down in the Market. These are all cell phone photos – I’m really impressed with the Vignette app for Android, and I’m having fun exploring some of the different built-in effects.

drive-by shooting
When we road trip down to California, I tend to spend a lot of time shooting photos through the car windows – not the best way to shoot, but it’s surprising how well some of the images turn out. One of these years maybe we’ll allow enough time to actually get out of the car and walk around a bit.
I’m always a little surprised but just how fascinated I am by wind farms. The machines are so surreal, like aliens on our high remote ridges, or an invading army. I love trying to capture some of that otherworldly quality. (If you want to see even more photos from the trip, you can check out my Flickr set)
roses and other signs of June
It’s the middle of June, which for once has actually been occasionally June-like around here (although admittedly it’s raining right now). Roses are rioting and all the other early summer flowers are doing their thing. It’s an excellent time to take the macro lens out for an airing. I love my macro lens.
what’s happening
What with one thing and another, I have a lot of photos on display out there. For the next couple of months, you can catch my work at Chuckanut Brewery in Bellingham, United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, and of course my photos are still up at Peshastin Creek Gallery (open by appointment). And in a few weeks a new show will open at University House Wallingford with four of my pictures! By the way, just because one of my photos is hanging somewhere else doesn’t mean you can’t buy it 😉
Here are some shots from my currently hanging shows (sorry about the blurry cell phone pix):
